Tolerance, Transgender and False Compassion
Boston Children’s Hospital Opens “Transgender” Children’s Clinic
BOSTON, Massachusetts, May 19, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A new clinic at Children’s Hospital Boston is offering hormone treatment to young children identified as “transgender” to facilitate eventual surgery for a gender switch, according to a report by MassResistance May 17.For modernists, gender is only skin deep. In the modernist novel Orlando by Virginia Woolf, the main character switches gender involuntarily at first, but then at will. He was originally a man, but at the end of the book he finds true freedom in being a woman who pretends to be a man. The point of the novel is that gender is fluid and can (should) be a matter of personal preference.
Led by endocrinologist Dr. Norman Spack, the Gender Management Service Clinic is the first U.S. clinic to initiate medical intervention for healthy children on the basis of a “transgender” identification. A 12-year-old German boy who began receiving puberty-blocking hormone treatments last winter in preparation for sex-change “transition” surgery was believed to be the youngest child to receive the treatment at the time.
The Boston clinic will reportedly offer the treatments to children as young as seven years old, according to researcher Ari Taube for MassResistance.
Modernist "wisdom" calls transgender surgery for children who want it "compassionate." After all, why force a child to be a gender that he or she does not want to be? However, this is one more example of modernists capitalizing on human vulnerability to advance their philosophical agenda. Such procedures are false compassion.
- According to Dr. Richard Fitzgibbons of the Institute for Marital Healing, many children who state a desire to be a different gender actually do so to satisfy the implicit desires of a parent (usually the mother) to have a child of the opposite gender.
- Many such children have gender identity disorder, often caused by negative messages about their gender by adults in their environment.
- Gender identity disorder is relatively easy to cure among children - a solution much less invasive than surgery!
- Giving children with gender identity disorder a sex-change operation is basically telling them that there is indeed something wrong with the gender they were born with.
- Johns Hopkins Hospital ceased performing these operations because they found that the surgeries did not help their patients find peace with themselves!
- Common sense should tell us that children and teenagers are very poor judges of their internal lives. These surgeries are performed based on their self-reporting! Should we next give plastic surgery to every girl who thinks she's ugly?
Our gender is more than skin deep. People with gender identity disorder have a true problem with their identity. Is true compassion to verify for them that they are not OK by helping them to change their gender, or does true compassion heal the hurt that makes them dissatisfied with themselves? It's time to put the breaks on modernism in the medical community before their false compassion does any more irreparable harm.
